Field Trip

The field trip of the negotiators started on February 2l, 2005 in Kangirsualujjuaq where Maggie Emudluk and Minnie Grey held a public meeting to provide an update and information on the content of the Agreement in Principle. Harry Tulugak was not able to make it as he had another meeting to attend in Kuujjuaq.

The following day the Municipal Council was met, a short radio show on the local FM and a question period  with the secondary 3,4 and 5 students. There was alot of good questions and comments made by all participants of the meetings and radio show.

That evening, February 22, 2005 Harry joined Maggie and Minnie to meet with the Muncipal Council of Kuujjuaq where they were encouraged to go on the local radio the next day and because of the lack of time, it would be a good idea to return to Kuujjuaq at a later date in order to hold a public meeting.

February 23, the weather went bad up the coast so the trip to Kangirsuk was delayed to the next day.  On February 24, the municipal council was met followed by a public meeting which last 3 hours.  Information was provided to all participants and there was a very good exchange.  One participant in particular was very happy that he had decided to come to the meeting as he had come in with a very different understanding of what the Nunavik Government project was all about.

February 24, Minnie Grey left for Montreal while Maggie and Harry did the meetings for Aupaluk and Tasiujaq.

All in all, the 3 negotiators are very pleased with the outcome of these community visits so far and feel that it was very positive and that there was very good support.

The next leg of the field trip was planned for the week of March 7.  Unfortunately, due to unforeseen events it has been postponed to the end of March.

Kuujjuaq was revisited on March 7 and the public meeting was held.  Once again, the participants were very animated and a good exchange was held.  As for the rest of the communities, namely Quaqtaq, Kangirsujuaq, Salluit and Ivujivik, they will be visited at at the end of March.

As for the Hudson coast communities, the scheduled trip for March 2l-24 is still on.
